All men dream, but not equally.
Those who dream by night, in the dusty recesses of their minds,
wake in the day to find that it was vanity.
But the dreamers of the day are dangerous men,
for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.

Barry and Debbie at Maachu Pichu

Machu Pichu
Peru
May 2004

Christmas 2004 I was watching a program about the Inca trail in Peru, I managed to talk Deb around to going on another back packing holiday, with the intention of completing the Inca trail and seeing Machu Pichu. Because as holidays go we don't do packages, went to Ibiza once, (U know what i mean ) never again. We had just returned from completing a seven day trek out in the Andes in which we had climbed Salcantay and Alcantay to a height of 16000ft. We had used a local guide and mules to carry the kit. Needless to say we were absolutely shattered. After a shower we had all agreed to meet up in the Irish bar in the square of Cuzco. During the meal Frank, a young 27yrs old Irish man, who had been a pleasure to be with on the mountains, then asked "well Barry, what's your next adventure" " When I get home I'm going to buy a boat and sail the world" "so you've sailed before then" "no " I replied "the only thing I've done like that was four days in the Able Tasmin Sea in a Kayak, but I'm getting to old to walk around the world"
